President Obama Has Killed SOPA…For Now.

obama

Seems many people may be too late to show their support for SOPA on this day, January 18th, 2012. Although many people were planning to protest SOPA by not visiting sites as well as blackout sites that they are in control of, Obama has already stopped this bill from progressing as of now.

(The) House Judiciary Committee hearing on HR 3261 was scheduled in Washington, DC – President Barack Obama has stepped in and said he would not support the bill. SOPA has been killed, for now.

Many people who do not support the bill feel this is a success thanks to the online community that showed they would not stand for such a law and grouped together to share their disdain for such a bill.

“The voice of the Internet community has been heard,” said Issa. “Much more education for members of Congress about the workings of the Internet is essential if anti-piracy legislation is to be workable and achieve broad appeal.”

Protect IP (the Enforcing and Protecting American Rights Against Sites Intent on Theft and Exploitation Act) is a similar bill though that still must go before Senate. This legislation is scheduled to be heard by the Senate on january 24th, 2012.
