True Hero: College Man Saves Girlfriend And Ends Up Dead

Niu Shooting Funeral

UPDATE: February 16th, 2012 at 10:01 AM -

This incident actually occurred on Valentine’s Day in 2008. I will go ahead and post some of Lauren’s remark’s and more of the story below the photo.

Lauren Debrauwere, although not dead, was actually shot twice herself during this massacre at Northern Illinois University. She had to have stomach surgery and was still in the hospital on February 19th, 2008, with a tube down her esophagus.

Debrauwere, 19, told her family she never had a chance to run on Thursday when a stranger walked onto the stage and opened fire, killing five of her classmates — including her boyfriend sitting next to her — and injuring nearly 20 more before turning a gun on himself.

She remembers everything, her father, Mark Debrauwere, said Monday, the day families started laying the slain students to rest.

He said his daughter didn’t know Steven Kazmierczak, and when he appeared on stage minutes before class was to end, she assumed he was there to make an announcement.

Then from somewhere behind him or underneath his clothing, he pulled out a shotgun. “He tried to shoot the instructor, who ducked behind the podium,” Debrauwere said his daughter told him. Then, he said, Kazmierczak pointed the shotgun at the students sitting in front of him in the large lecture hall and pulled the trigger.

Lauren and her boyfriend Dan were sitting near the fron of the class and the gunman aimed at both of them. Unfortunately, this is when Dan was shot and killed and Lauren was shot twice: once in the hip and another time in the abdomen. Shortly after, he shot the girl sitting next to Lauren. It was literally a nightmare, right in front of her eyes.

Mark Debrauwere said his daughter was conscious when she arrived at the hospital.

“She knew what had happened. She just said her stomach hurt, ‘Please make it stop,’” Mark Debrauwere said.

Doctors found one bullet had exited her buttocks and the other had traveled up her body and lodged above her left breast, narrowly missing her heart, her father said.

She also knew something else.

“She kept asking us about Dan and we lied to her for a while but she knew (he’d been killed),” he said. “She saw it. She definitely had seen what happened.”

College Student Orders Textbook Online And Winds Up With Free Cocaine As Well

r-SOPHIA-STOCKTON-large570

When Sophia Stockton ordered her textbook, “Understanding Terrorism: Challenges, Perspectives, and Issues,” she never expected to find $400 worth of cocaine within, but that’s exactly what she discovered.

Stockton is in her junior year of college in Olathe, Kansas, and wasn’t sure of exactly what was in the bag, but had her assumptions. After taking it to her local police station, they were able to confirm that she had in fact received a large amount of cocaine along with her textbook.

“He put some gloves on and put it in a plastic bag,”Stockton told KSCW. ”He took it back to test it and like 10 minutes later he came back and said, ‘Did you happen to order some cocaine with your textbook?’”

For a college student, Miss Stockton is pretty ignorant. I mean, at the very least, sell that shit. You’re obviously spending money on textbooks which cost an arm and a leg, might as well reap the benefits of the $400 worth of cocaine you have in your possession.

[VIDEO] Occupy Cal Berkeley 11/9/11

Many students at Cal State University Berkeley were protesting and faced some brutality coming from the police which was, in my opinion, uncalled for. The administration on campus had said it would not tolerate these protests which led to the police even being involved in the first place. Having a campus like Berkeley not allow its students to protest in regards to issues they feel strongly about seems rather unethical.

The encampment, approved in a nearly unanimous general assembly vote by the protest’s participants, was formed to show solidarity with the national Occupy movement but focused on the increased privatization of the UC system, according to Amanda Armstrong, a UC Berkeley head steward for UAW Local 2865 — a union representing graduate student instructors — and organizer of the event.

This movement is not going to just end because the police are acting defensively, in fact, this is giving those protesters ammunition to keep fighting for their right and freedoms as citizens of the United States Of America. We live her and appreciate our freedoms, but we also have the right to speak up and have our voices heard when we don’t agree with the economical and political decisions being made by those in charge.

Sadly there were arrests in Berkeley, but this doesn’t come as a shock. Hopefully fewer people are hurt and more changes are made so we stop seeing our peers being jailed and injured because they want change in our country.

Kindle Textbook Rental Now Available For Students

Amazon is now offering Textbook rental with Kindle. This will enable students to rent textbooks for the amount of time they need, and not over spend. I know when I was in college, I spent hundreds of dollars on books that I used very rarely. This new advantage is great, especially in our current economy and seeing as students are finding it difficult to find money to purchase the necessary tools to succeed in classes.

“Kindle Textbook Rental is a flexible and affordable way to read textbooks. You can rent for the minimum length, typically 30 days, and save up to 80% off the print list price. If you find you need your textbook longer, you can extend your rental by as little as 1 day as many times as you want and just pay for the added days.”

Marcus Bachmann Lied?! No?! <—–I’m being facetious.

Apparently Marcus Bachmann has some explaining to do, when it comes to where he got his degrees, what degrees he actually has, and well, the list is too long to bother you with. After reading the full article on Qweerty that commented on Mr Bachmann’s ex-gay treatment sessions, I thought this was a great quote to share:

“homosexuality is not a mental illness that needs “curing.” The American Psychiatric Association declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1973 and The American Psychological Association Council of Representatives followed suit in 1975. Those who have issues with their homosexual feelings usually have underlying self-image issues such as negative thinking, self-defeating behaviors, paranoia, obssessive-compulsion, delusions of psychosis. Hearing constant anti-gay messages in our culture can saddle a gay person with lots of neurosis and the object of therapy is to help resolve those neurosis, not to alter a person’s sexual orientation.”

Porn for Bibles…

An Atheist group in San Antonio, Texas has decided to go ahead and offer people porn in exchange for their bibles. The motive behind this demonstration is they’re trading “Smut for Smut”. And in all honesty, porn is rather expensive these days, and bibles seem to be given to anyone who wants one; I believe this is a fair trade.
