Seeing as that article about Karen Huff Klein was just posted, a lot of people are blaming that parents of those middle-schoolers for the children acting so poorly. For that reason, I’ve decided to feature today’s Thursday 4Play around that subject.
With all the news on Joseph Kony going viral, I think this is the perfect subject for Thursday 4Play. If you’re offended, I don’t care. Politically incorrect is rather funny sometimes.
A woman and her husband were obviously in the midst of an argument when he punches her in the face, while the two children are present. While it seems clearly obvious what’s going on here, there are a lot of unanswered questions.
The husband seems to be aware of the camera and most likely the one who had set it up, seeing as he runs right to it after the incident. Why is that?
If it is the husbands and he took it right this second, how did it wind up in her hands and who uploaded it to YouTube?
After asking myself several questions, I’m still not able to think it is a fake because of the fact that it is done in front of two children who seem obviously upset by what has just happened and their mother to be crying. Hopefully more of this story is brought to the surface. Either way, this man should be punished for not only hitting his wife who was just telling him to leave (for whatever reason), but for also endangering and allowing his children to witness. So pathetic.
(For everyone who read up on KONY, please be aware that the Invisible Children Organization has their own skeletons in the closet. Not only do they work with Sudan People’s Liberation Army (who has a similar reputation as the LRA), they also exaggerate the statistics and refuse to let the BBB look into their operation. While I love that they raised awareness, I don’t know if their organization is what we should support, but rather the people of Africa as well as humanity. Research and awareness takes time and effort while following the majority takes nothing. Be aware and continue on fighting!)
When I first sat down to watch this amazing film, I had no idea what I was getting myself in for and very little knowledge on what it would actually be about. I must admit that a range of emotions have since overwhelmed me and I can’t help but to feel ashamed, saddened, angry, bitter, hopeless, hopeful, but more than anything, I am happy to feel compassion for humanity.
Joseph Kony is a despicable mancoward, that preys on those who can’t fight him, controls their will, desires, AND freedom, all to gain nothing but power and superiority over the masses. What bothered me even more that Kony himself was the carelessness and inhumane way that OUR government, the Unites States of America, reacted when they first heard the pleas of this filmmaker (who is truly, much more than that). Financially and socially not a big enough issue for us to get involved?! Excuse me, but are you fucking serious?! Thank goodness you though otherwise during the time of Hitler or we may be a much different world today.
The film brings great insight into the advantages of technology in the modern world and how we, as a people, can use this to our advantage. No longer should the politicians, 1%, and media have the say in who or what we fight for, but rather, the people, are the ones who can now make decisions on a global level. Please watch this film and find a way to be a part of the change in our system! Don’t fight for America, fight for humanity!
UPDATE March 7th, 2012 at 3:05PM: I was hoping to do more research on this after I got home from work and was able to spend some time investigating, but have discovered, I shouldn’t wait that long. An article posted by Jezebel has already brought up many issues that I feel everyone who watches this video should be aware of:
“Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit, its finances are public. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services (page 6), with much of the rest going to staff salaries, travel and transport, and film production. This is far from ideal, and Charity Navigator rates their accountability 2/4 stars because they haven’t had their finances externally audited. But it goes way deeper than that.
In their campaigns, such organizations [as Invisible Children] have manipulated facts for strategic purposes, exaggerating the scale of LRA abductions and murders and emphasizing the LRA’s use of innocent children as soldiers, and portraying Kony — a brutal man, to be sure — as uniquely awful, a Kurtz-like embodiment of evil.
The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government‘s army and various other military forces. Here’s a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but Invisible Children defends them, arguing that the Ugandan army is “better equipped than that of any of the other affected countries”, although Kony is no longer active in Uganda and hasn’t been since 2006 by their own admission. Thesebooks each refer to the rape and sexual assault that are perennial issues with the UPDF, the military group Invisible Children is defending.
“[The video] feels much the same, laced with more macho bravado. The movie feels like it’s about the filmmakers, and not the cause. There might be something to the argument that American teenagers are more likely to relate to an issue through the eyes of a peer. That’s the argument that was made after the first film. It’s not entirely convincing, especially given the distinctly non-teenage political influence IC now has. The cavalier first film did the trick. Maybe now it’s time to start acting like grownups.
…
There are a few other things that are troubling. It’s questionable whether one should be showing the faces of child soldiers on film. And watching the film one gets the sense that the US and IC were instrumental in getting the peace talks to happen. These things diminish credibility more than anything.
“Invisible Children is staffed by douchebags” (A woman after my own heart.)
“Now when I first watched the Kony 2012 video, there was a horrible pang of self-knowledge as I finally grasped quite how shallow I am. I found it impossible to completely overlook the smug indie-ness of it all. It reminded me of a manipulative technology advert, or the Kings of Leon video where they party with black families, or the 30 Seconds to Mars video where all the kids talk about how Jared Leto’s music saved their lives. I mean, watch the first few seconds of this again. It’s pompous twaddle with no relevance to fucking anything.”
I am still going to try and decide where I stand on this matter, because whatever the facts about Invisible Children are, they still made one difference: People all over the world now feel empowered to know that they can make a difference. One person can make change, (s)he just has to ignite the passion within another. Kony is a bad man. Invisible Children is an organization trying to make change (whether it be 2 stars or 4). You decide what you want to do, because YOU have the freedom to do so.
If Kony 2012 inspired you to donate money to the region, check out these charities, all of which received four star ratings on Charity Navigator: AMREF USA, Doctors Without Borders, and Water.org.
KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

So, as we all know, babies/toddlers are pretty damn cute and quite hilarious at times. What makes them even better? When you take a photo os said baby and/or toddler and caption them with inappropriate or unrealistic sentences. Here are a few that I have come across lately:
Riley, 5, is a pretty smart little girl and has trouble understanding why it is that princesses are pink and marketed towards girls, while G.I. Joe‘s and things of that sort are packaged in greens and blues and marketed towards boys. The stereotypes that are in place today, which offer guidance for what girls and boys should be interested in, often make me wonder if we’ll ever be able to stray away from the 50′s idea of what men and women should do and how they should act. Fortunately, we have young children, like Riley, who make it seem so apparent that this is wrong and not the way we should be encouraging our children. Just because the princess is in a pink package does not mean that a little boy can’t play with it, yet, he’s far too aware that the consequences of wanting and/or getting such a gift wouldn’t be all that great.
Way to go Riley! If only some adults could not be so ignorant and take advice from you, we might be better off.
And although she isn’t aware of what a provocative statement she made for the gay community, I’d like to send thanks to her for that as well. At this time, when a young boy’s parent is questioned because she paints his nails pink, we really need people to stand up and express that color doesn’t identify someone. We should already be well aware of this, thanks to the Civil Rights Movement, but sadly, we are not.
Gay children find it harder to come out because of these exact scenarios. If they want to buy a princess, the bullying begins and they learn from the get go, that in order to not be made fun of they can’t play with the toys they like, act the way they wish, or someday find love in a companion they choose. This is what is truly heartbreaking and this reason that little Riley is such an amazing girl.
Are you fucking kidding me?! I highly doubt that the comedian who came up with the idea to make the Muppets Movie (Jason Segel) was attempting to brainwash the youth in America to help raise awareness for the Liberal Political agenda. I mean, that’s as ludicrous as saying that the gay community has a “gay agenda“, one that virtually no gay person I know is aware of.
Also, do you remember the inappropriate jokes from children’s shows that you watched when you were little? No. You remember how great they were and how when you watch them now, you UNDERSTAND so much more than you did when you first watched them.
Either way, explaining away Occupy Wall Street and the entire Occupy Movement on the brainwashing that has been done by Hollywood and Liberals within Hollywood, is absolutely ridiculous. This whole generation does not feel this way because of subliminal messages within the shows they watched as children. Unfortunately, Fox has to make up some sort of excuse for why so many people are involved and not on their side in regards to politics.
A British woman has been arrested after a video was filmed and uploaded to YouTube, showing her screaming in the tram and bitching about how Britain is now nothing but minorities. She is also holding her young son in the video, which makes this even more shocking due to her vulgar language and racist insults.
British Transport Police said the 34-year-old woman has now been arrested on suspicion of a racially-aggravated offence, the BBC reported.
The incident occurred on the Croydon to Wimbledon Tramlink route, although police are yet to ascertain exactly where or when it happened.
This woman clearly has no respect for anyone and seems to be highly uneducated. I curse, and yeah, I do it a lot, but I know better than to curse in public, where it may offend some people. I am also aware enough to keep that kind of language from being heard by children. Unfortunately, some people have no regard for anyone but themselves, which is evident in this video.
This is by far one of the most pathetic things I have heard in a while. These spoiled little shits, Steven II, now 23, and Kathryn, now 20 had brought their mom to court over silly scenarios and were represented by three lawyers, including their father, Steven A. Miner.
The $50,000 lawsuit for bad mothering was not successful, and for good fucking reason. Like any mother, Kimberly Garrity raised her children how she thought best. Unfortunately, she was most likely too nice to these children who have taken advantage and feel they deserve more (material items/money) than she gave them.
They alleged Garrity failed to take Kathryn to a car show and threatened Steven II with phoning police if he did not buckle his seatbelt.
The children claim she ‘haggled’ over dress prices and called at midnight to tell Kathryn to come home from a party, reported the Chicago Tribune.
After two years of hearing ridiculous incidences, like above, the ordeal is finally over. The fact that they put their mother through this emotional stress for two years is a reason they should be sued. The appeals court has ruled that her behavior and actions were not ‘extreme or outrageous’.
The birthday card in question was labelled ‘inappropriate’ by Steven II as it allegedly failed to include any money.
It had a picture of indistinguishable tomatoes on a table, apart from one in the centre with googly eyes attached.
The card said: ‘Son I got you this Birthday card because it’s just like you … different from all the rest!’
Seriously, she’s a bad mom for not putting money in a card on your birthday? She probably figured you’d blow it on something stupid anyhow, because you’re obviously a child. Who the hell complains about shit like this and actually has the balls to take their own mother to court over such frivolous matters? A spoiled little brat, that’s who.
‘(The children) do not view their (lawsuit) as an attack on mothering, but rather on accountability,’ the children’s father Mr Miner wrote.
Grow up. She has nothing to account for, other than the fact that she was too giving to children who didn’t appreciate everything she provided. Their father is another contributing factor; He seems more interested in seeking revenge against his ex-wife than ensuring his children will be able to survive in the real world.
This article is very intriguing and very well written. If you have the time, I suggest you take a look. The quote that caught my attention and drew me in, was
“Scientists say that the brain chemistry of infatuation is akin to mental illness—which gives new meaning to…”
