Uganda’s Anti-Gay Bill to be Passed by End of Year Despite Criticism Abroad

uganda-anti-gay-demonstration-2009-12-22-18-11-45

If you aren’t already familiar with Uganda’s anti-gay bill, I urge you to become informed. The bill mandates death for some gay acts and will become law this year. Ultimately, the people of Uganda have stated that they would like anyone who is living a gay lifestyle, murdered. The death penalty for loving someone of the same sex?! There are people out there who murder, rape, steal, cheat, lie, etc. and are given second chances, but because someone may love another who is not idealistic in their minds, they should be put to death?! I thought we had advanced enough to never see something like this actually pass. True, it is in Uganda and they are much more traditional, but I would have thought murdering someone for something so frivolous wouldn’t be approved by the majority.

Hate to admit, but this next bit of information is coming from Fox News:

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga told The Associated Press that the bill, which originally mandated death for some gay acts, will become law this year.

Ugandans “are demanding it,” she said, reiterating a promise she made before a meeting on Friday of anti-gay activists who spoke of “the serious threat” posed by homosexuals to Uganda’s children. Some Christian clerics at the meeting in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, asked the speaker to pass the law as “a Christmas gift.”

“Speaker, we cannot sit back while such (a) destructive phenomenon is taking place in our nation,” the activists said in a petition. “We therefore, as responsible citizens, feel duty-bound to bring this matter to your attention as the leader of Parliament … so that lawmakers can do something to quickly address the deteriorating situation in our nation.”

The anti-gay activists paraded in front of Kadaga, with parents and schoolchildren holding up signs saying homosexuality is “an abomination.” The speaker then promised to consider the bill within two weeks, declaring that “the power is in our hands.”

“Who are we not to do what they have told us? These people should not be begging us,” Kadaga said of activists who want the bill to become law.

Uganda’s penal code criminalizes homosexuality, but in 2009 a lawmaker with the ruling party said a stronger law was needed to protect Uganda’s children from homosexuals. Parliamentarian David Bahati charged at the time that wealthy homosexuals from the West were “recruiting” poor children into gay lifestyles with promises of money and a better life. Bahati believes his bill is sufficiently popular among lawmakers to pass without difficulty.

Some gay activists in Uganda are happy that so much light has been shed on this situation, because like Uganda, many African countries have criminalized homosexuality. It’s amazing that there are even gay activists out there fighting for their rights when there are such harsh consequences. Even here in California homosexuals can not legally be married, and we’re a liberal state.

The President, Barack Obama, has described this bill as “odious”, and many other European countries have threaded to cut aid to Uganda. I hope that many of these countries follow through and show Uganda that hate and their immoral decision to kill because of sexuality will not go unnoticed. I could never imagine living in a country with such disdain for who I was. Luckily, I live in America, where we’re still not equal, but getting closer everyday.

Mitt Romney: Hospital Visitation For Gay Couples Are ‘Benefits’ Not Rights

be06645a7a0a44ee962cc9275053312b_0

I am getting really sick and tired of this conservative Mormon telling me what I can and cannot do with, or for, the one I love. My relationship, whether deemed appropriate or not in his mind, is MINE to handle as I please. If my fiancée (soon to be wife) is in the hospital, there is not one person who will be able to keep me from visiting. Why would anyone want someone who is ill to not have the support of those who love them by their side? It’s an unnecessary way of torturing gay individuals who don’t live up to the religious standards of some Americans. I don’t know when we decided that separation of church and state was no longer working, but I can reassure you that I most certainly wasn’t involved in that vote. Oh wait, nothing of the sort ever took place, yet we still manage to create laws based upon religious beliefs.

Two years ago, the current President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, required all hospitals to treat same-sex couples with the same rights as married heterosexual couples, which includes visitation rights. This is also included in Obamacare, for those who were wondering.

Unfortunately, the presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, feels that is no longer necessary. In fact, he believes that allowing same-sex couples to visit each other in the hospital is not a civil right, but rather, a “benefit” that states can take away if they choose. While this is disgusting, there is also the matter of gay adoption on the table. This too, is something Romney feels the states should be deciding. Instead of allowing some good-hearted, loving couples or individuals to adopt children in need, the state will decide if that isn’t in the best interest of the child. Let me remind you, there have been numerous cases of children who have been adopted to heterosexual couples and are found to be abused physically, sexually and emotionally. I can see how that could be a better upbringing than a non abusive gay household.

“Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as an institution between a man and a woman,” Romney advisor Bay Buchanan toldBuzzfeed today. “Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children. I referred to the Tenth Amendment only when speaking about these kinds of benefits – not marriage.”

A President that only supports a percentage of his country, will most certainly not be a great President historically. The gay rights movement will one day be a thing of the past, just like the civil rights movement. I’m not saying that people no longer face discrimination based on skin color, but the laws have most certainly come to their aid in since the 1950′s/1960′s and I am positive the same will happen for those fighting for gay rights.

I am a liberal, but I do not vote based solely on my political party, I vote with the individuals political policies in mind as well as their plans for America’s future. I am disgusted with the fact that people are still willing to vote for a man who does not respect a good percentage of Americans, simply because they do not want to vote for Obama. Think before you recklessly vote for someone based on ridiculous matters. This is our country, our freedom and our way of life. Vote smart.

[VIDEO] Americans – a Public Service Film by Kid Rock & Sean Penn

Screen shot 2012-10-22 at 12.44.12 PM

Kid Rock and actor Sean Penn have come together and made a very informative, and funny, video for the American people. While the two have very different political beliefs, they are able to come together and learn something from one another. Being stubborn and believing that your viewpoint is the only one, is harmful to society. Don’t let the issues divide us as a nation.

This video highlights the many differences that have been made clear during this campaign for Presidency and shows how all of those ridiculous matters are so insignificant. Both men are able to put their opposing beliefs aside and work to develop a relationship and leads to this great video.

YouTube:

“Americans” is a short, public service film starring Sean Penn and Kid Rock, directed by Jameson Stafford. The goal of the film is to tear down the one-dimensional political stereotypes portrayed by the media by confronting them head on. It reminds us that what really matters is that we’re all Americans, with diverse thoughts, opinions and stances on issues. We are millions of unique, individual parts, the sum of which comprise a whole that is the shining beacon of freedom throughout the world.

The film reminds us to be proud of our differences, and to never forget that we’re all in this together as Americans.

[VIDEO] 4th Graders ‘Call Me Maybe’ Parody: Reminding Us All of Our Civic Duty to Vote

vote

I don’t really think they know what they’ve done here, because they are only in 4th grade. But, it’s still a nice parody with a good message, in my opinion. Obama and Romney, I can see why you wouldn’t want to vote for either, but why not pick a smaller party opponent? It’s a throw-away vote, sure, but at least you’re standing by what you believe, on the record. Do you not agree with ANY party? Then, do something about it, rather than complain. Voting is a freedom we have, that other people, in different countries, do not have. If you feel differently, let me know why.

[VIDEO] Woman Calls Obama a Communist But Can’t Define Communist

Screen shot 2012-10-12 at 11.53.17 AM

I love when people make statements that are completely ignorant, and then prove this by not being able to explain what it is they meant. Sadly, this has happened a lot with both Republicans and Democrats during this campaign for Presidency.

[VIDEO] Breaking News! Mitt Romney Debates Himself

Screen shot 2012-10-11 at 1.37.06 PM

Silly Mitt Romney! When you say something, it might be a good idea to stand behind it, especially when you’ve already publicly made an opposing viewpoint. But, in your defense, that was one hell of a debate. Too bad your statements were full of ideas you don’t agree with and blatant lies.

[VIDEO] The “R” Train: Mitt Romney Campaign Song

Screen Shot 2012-10-08 at 8.52.35 PM

This old man is hilarious; And apparently, Obama’s gay. If you plan on making a video and putting it on YouTube to get people to vote, how you feel they should, I would suggest a factual song with more content focused on their viewpoints as opposed to their political parties. The fact that you went to the trouble to write, film, record, and green screen this video seems to put your life into perspective for me.
