Alcohol: When Moderation No Longer Exists
I love to drink and I usually have a blast while doing so. Unfortunately, as of late, I’m starting to think that it’s not such a great idea to drink as heavily as I have in the past, mainly because I don’t just stop when I’m simply “buzzed“. I no longer approach alcohol with awareness (whether I’ve eaten enough, how many shots are too many, how much money I’ve spent, etc.), and end up doing things that may be regrettable. I also think that it’s hard to go out in social environments without drinking, because to be honest, I’m much more funny while intoxicated. This is why I am giving myself a personal goal to not drink any alcoholic beverages for at least 30 days. Now, don’t get me wrong, this is not an attempt to stop drinking for good because, well, I love to drink socially; This will just allow me to be sober (as far as alcohol is concerned) for an extended amount of time and hopefully get back to the occasional drinks now and then.
This goal isn’t just to prove to myself that I can go so many days without drinking, but also a challenge to be more outgoing and extroverted without alcohol. As a young kid, I was always the most outgoing and did what I want, when I wanted, regardless of how people perceived my actions; I’d like to get that back. I don’t fully recognize when I lost this ability to not give a shit, but it’s gone and I dislike that. Hopefully this will encourage me to engage in situations without having something in my system that will encourage me to do so.
Also, the only reason I wrote this article is because writing it down means I really have to follow through. I mean, I don’t have to because no one would know, but it only makes me want to actually carry out my goal. Thank god I’ll still be able to smoke pot

Did Homophobia Contribute To Whitney Houston’s Fall?

Hugs: Whitney, (left) with Bobby Brown, mother Cissy and (right) Robyn Crawford who many believe to be her one true love
In the past few days since Whitney Houston passed away, there are many articles coming out which shed light into who she really was and some of the secrets that she was forced to hide from people. According to many, Ms. Houston’s one true love in life (other than daughter, Bobbi Kristina)was a woman: Robyn Crawford.
Crawford was Whitney Houston’s assistant, and it was obvious to many that they shared more than a friendship. Peter Tatchell, who wrote an amazing article for DailyMail, discusses how he met Ms. Houston and ms. Crawford in 1991 at the Reach Out & Touch HIV vigil that was held in London. This is when Tatchell shared that it was clear to him that Houston and Crawford were madly in love.
They held hands in the back of the car like teenage sweethearts. Clearly more than just friends, they were a gorgeous couple and so happy together. To see their love was infectious and uplifting.
Gay rights campaigner Peter met Whitney at an HIV vigil in London in 1991
Whitney was happiest and at the peak of her career when she was with Robyn. Sadly, she suffered family and church pressure to end her greatest love of all.
Sadly, she was pressured into believing that the most important relationship to her, at the time, could damage her public image, and therefore, career. She eventually gave into the pressure that was put on her by the church and her family, and ended her lesbian relationship with Robyn Crawford. This situation is what led to the spontaneous marriage to former husband, Bobby Brown.
As we all know, Bobby Brown was not a good influence on Whitney and led her down the path of self-destruction. She was willing to down this path because she was emotionally traumatized by her recent split with her one true love.
It seems likely that the split with Robyn contributed to her substance abuse and decline.
There is a known correlation between denial of one’s sexuality and a propensity to self-destructive behaviour. Homophobia undoubtedly added to the pressures on Whitney and hastened her demise.
This is not a story to tarnish Whitney Houston and/or Robyn Crawford, but rather a story to show what homophobia can do to a person. It is also a way to honor their relationship seeing as it was pretty important to both of these women.
Tatchell wasn’t intending on outing Ms. Houston, because there had been many people before him that had hinted at the same message.
Years ago, she was outed by Bobby’s sister, Tina, and by her former bodyguard, Kevin Ammons.
Bobby Brown hinted in his autobiography that she married him to dispel lesbian rumours: ‘I believe her agenda was to clean up her image . . . The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robin [sic] Crawford . . . that didn’t go too well with her image. In Whitney’s situation, the only solution was to get married . . . [to] kill all speculation.’
Telling the truth does not besmirch Whitney’s memory. It honours the most important relationship she ever had.
It would be nice to see people not have to jump into fake relationships to uphold the image that society has of someone. Love should be the reason behind spending your life with someone, not politics, or public façade. Poor Whitney is an example of what damage could be done.

People Have No Respect
People have no respect for anybody these days. As I’m sure all of you know, Whitney Houston, 48, has passed away after an incident that occurred at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Apparently she mixed a deadly amount of Xanax and alcohol. After doing this, she got into the bathtub and this is where she took her last breath. Now that we’re all caught up, let’s continue.
So many people are talking about how Ms. Houston was a washed up drug addict that because of her money, was capable of getting herself better. People that have dealt with addiction and know people who have dealt with addiction, are well aware that it is not that easy. We think we know these celebrities because they and their families are harassed with paparazzi and they air some of their private lives in order to gain an income. Then, once they pass away, we feel we have a right to judge what they did right, what they did wrong, and yet have no sympathy for the real scenario that is playing out.
Whitney Houston not only had a daughter, but she had an entire family and tons of friends who supported her and were standing by her side as she attempted to make changes. Beyond that, we don’t know what led her to use drugs in the first place. Some people handle traumatic instances differently than another and can’t judge the other person for not dealing with it in the same way they would have. That is just ignorant to believe that there is one way, and one way only, to react to any given situation. That is utter bullshit.
Dealing with an addiction is a hard thing to do, and personally, I don’t feel it’s our right to judge. Yes, many people in America deal with this issue and many of those people do end up on the streets. But let me ask you one thing: What would you do if your son and/or daughter, for whatever reason, turned to drugs and had a nearly impossible time turning away? Would you disown him/her and think of him/her as a washed up drug addict? I would hope not.
Like I said, each person in this world has incidences in their life or a family history of addiction that led to their demise. Those who have a history we can’t understand (molestation, rape, abuse of any kind, and so on and so on) have trouble coping. Just because you’ve been a success in life and may have a stronger will that keeps you from going down the wrong path, doesn’t mean that you have a right to judge those you don’t understand. I have MANY friends and family members who have dealt with being addicted to something, some of which have died. They were and/or are good people, who when off of drugs, were/are kind, caring, great, talented people. They were/are NOT washed up drug addicts. She had money, yes, but she still had deep-rooted emotional issues. Money can’t buy you happiness. This story of Whitney Houston’s death is proof.
The insensitivity that many people have had after hearing the news of an icon baffles me. She had provided this generation as well as many others with entertainment for many years and what do you do? Laugh when you discover that she was unable to kick her habit and instead died after years of struggle. And again, she DID NOT die from crack like many of you have implied. Although, to me, that wouldn’t make a difference because she’s still responsible for many accomplishments in her life.
The only PERSON (celebrity or not) that I have ever said something bad about after their death was Michael Jackson. I’m saying this because I want this article to reflect my exact opinions. I spoke poorly of Mr. Jackson because I feel he was guilty of the molestation charges that were brought against him. I know he was an icon and an amazing musician who had a very troubled childhood. He also was very into drugs, just no one really cared, because these drugs weren’t illegal. And neither were the ones that Whitney took on the night she passed. Just thought that was worth pointing out.
My message to you: have some respect and imagine if she were someone you knew, not someone you THOUGHT you knew.

New Drug Allows You To Drink And Not Get Drunk And No Hangover
Why?
Okay, so we haven’t yet tested this in humans, but at least these are the results they’ve seen in rats.
Rats who’ve consumed the drug can consume vast quantities of alcohol without passing out, show few signs of a hangover – and don’t become alcoholics, even after weeks of solid drinking, say researchers
Again I ask why anyone would want to do this? Drink and not get drunk? That sounds rather pointless. If the only side effect was lack of a hangover then I would totally be on board with this idea. But if the compromise is not getting drunk, then that is just absurd. You might as well just not drink rather than take in a large amount of calories and have the exact same experience.

Man Tried To Light Fiance On Fire After She Refused Him Money For Alcohol
The 31-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, John Luther, was apparently pissed that his fiance refused him money for more alcohol, and decided he would seek revenge.
Mr. Luther poured gas onto his fiance’s head before setting the pillow she was sleeping upon, on fire. If he thought that she would for some reason change her mind by being set on fire, he was wrong.
His fiancée was able to escape being burned and 31-year-old Luther beat out the flames with his hands before storming out of the house to go drinking.
His fiancée then fell asleep on the couch, and was later woken by Luther when he returned, who told her their home was on fire and full of smoke.
After police had arrived on the scene, they became suspicious of the circumstances due to the fact that the female smelled of gasoline. The woman was instructed to say nothing by her fiance who just attempted to kill her, but fortunately, the police still arrested Luther on suspicion of arson.
The story seems like it would end here, but shortly after he was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns to his hands, he tried to escape…twice.
The first time he was found by a nurse who followed a trail of blood left by his IV line and the second time police found him waiting for a taxi outside the hospital emergency room.
Police charged Luther with attempted first-degree murder, arson of a dwelling, and violation of probation on a previous conviction in Lake County for trafficking in stolen property.
Court records show pasts arrests for domestic violence. Luther remains held without bail in the Orange County Jail.

Robert Vietze, JetBlue Passenger, Pees On Sleeping Passenger
UPDATED August 12th, 2011: Link is provided below.
While many of us may have friends, or ourselves, that have pissed in odd places while on a drunken stupor, this is most definitely a unique story. Eighteen-year-old Robert Vietze had consumed 8 drinks while on a red eye flight from Portland, Oregon to Vermont. With so much alcohol in his system, it’s obvious that he would need to use the restroom.
Unfortunately, he misjudged where the restroom was on the plane and instead started pissing on an eleven-year-old girl who was on the flight with her sister and father. Luckily, for Vietze, the sister and father were in the CORRECT restrooms and not urinating on their daughter/sister.
I was drunk, and I did not realize I was pissing on her leg,” the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Vietze told law enforcement.
After flight attendants interfered, more chaos commenced on this JetBlue flight. Another passenger started complaining that they had chest pains an hour before the flight was set to land, and then vomited. The flight attendants tried to keep this passenger calm, as well as the father of the young girl who had been peed on, so that they could make it to the destination.
Once they arrived, two individuals helped the sick man, while four others took Vietze and turned him over to authorities. He has been issued a federal summons for indecent exposure. This is one of the many reasons to keep your drinking to slightly buzzed and not totally blitzed on a flight back home.
Ironically, this is not “the first time a passenger has peed on another under the influence of alcohol. Back in June, a drunk New Zealand man on a Jetstar flight from Auckland to Singapore peed on the plane’s carpet, a man’s leg and a woman’s scarf after drinking whiskey out of Burger King cups with friends. The man, Michael Aitkin, eventually came forward and apologized profusely to his fellow passengers for his actions.”

Female Babysitter, 20, Sleeps With Boy She’s Babysitting, 14
By: Kelli Knight
Loni Bouchard, 20, was hired to look after a 14-year-old boy, but instead acted as a prostitute, and got paid to get the boy drunk and sleep with him. She is now facing charges of second-degree sexual assault because someone in the boy’s family tipped the investigators off that something had occurred. This launched a 3 month investigation. See, this is where I get confused. She turned herself in! I have no idea how and why this investigation lasted so long and why the tax payers money is funding 3 months of an investigation that should have been taken care of in a day.
Back to the story. Drunk or not, I have a feeling that this 14-year-old boy was thrilled that he had the opportunity to have sex with a good looking older female. Most kids his age dread being babysat, but when sex is involved, I’d be willing to bet he would be much more willing to go with the flow.
Bouchard is also being charged with supplying alcohol to a minor. I find this incredibly ironic, considering that she is only 20, and still a “minor” herself. And at the age of 14, being drunk is just a way to admit your horny and act on it without being so reserved. I think he was a willing participant in the alcohol consumption as well as the sexual activities.
And call me old fashioned, but if it were a girl in this position with a 20-year-old male babysitter, I may be a bit more understanding. Although, Ms. Bouchard may be a little more manipulative than I gave her credit for:
She is being charged in two separate areas in Connecticut on similar charges.
This is Absurd.
Marijuana has been approved by California, many other states and the nation’s capital to treat a range of illnesses, but in a decision announced Friday the federal government ruled that it has no accepted medical use and should remain classified as a dangerous drug like heroin.
The decision comes almost nine years after medical marijuana supporters asked the government to reclassify cannabis to take into account a growing body of worldwide research that shows its effectiveness in treating certain diseases, such as glaucoma and multiple sclerosis.
Advocates for the medical use of the drug criticized the ruling but were elated that the Obama administration had finally acted, which allows them to appeal to the federal courts, where they believe they can get a fairer hearing. The decision to deny the request was made by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and comes less than two months after advocates asked the U.S. Court of Appeals to force the administration to respond to their petition.
“We have foiled the government’s strategy of delay, and we can now go head-to-head on the merits, that marijuana really does have therapeutic value,” said Joe Elford, the chief counsel for Americans for Safe Access and the lead counsel on the recently filed lawsuit. Elford said he was not surprised by the decision, which comes just after the Obama administration announced it would not tolerate large-scale commercial marijuana cultivation. “It is clearly motivated by a political decision that is anti-marijuana,” he said. He noted that studies demonstrate pot has beneficial effects, including appetite stimulation for people undergoing chemotherapy. “One of the things people say about marijuana is that it gives you the munchies and the truth is that it does, and for some people that’s a very positive thing.”
DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart sent a letter dated June 21 to the organizations that filed a petition for the change. The letter and the documentation that she used to back up her decision were published Friday in the Federal Register. Leonhart said she rejected the request because marijuana “has a high potential for abuse,” “has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States” and “lacks accepted safety for use under medical supervision.”
This is the third time that petitions to reclassify marijuana have been spurned. The first was filed in 1972 and denied 17 years later. The second was filed in 1995 and denied in 2001. Both decisions were appealed, but the courts sided with the federal government.

Are you kidding me?! As a person with a neurological disorder that once had me immobilized, I am absolutely appalled by the federal government’s decision! This is clearly an economic and political judgment call. The tobacco and alcohol industries want to monopolize, and the government is letting this happen because they’re greedy little shit heads. I apologize for getting so heated over this, but I just don’t understand how a MEDICINE, such as cannabis, is compared to a drug like heroin. Tobacco and alcohol can cause death, along with multiple other problems. This is proven. Marijuana does the opposite and gets people feeling alive again when they once thought they had nothing to live for.
I remember having to medically withdraw from college, laying (immobile) on my couch for weeks at a time, taking up to 15 pills a day, feeling depressed and not knowing if it would ever end. When I tried using marijuana for my disorder (I’m not gonna lie, I used it recreationally before I was diagnosed), it completely changed my perspective and life. Today, I use Marijuana to keep my disorder under control. I have a full timejob, my moood swings aren’t as bad, my pain is manageable and my disorder no longer controls my life.
But you’re right, I suppose it has no medicinal benefit. I’ll just stick to smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol since those are my legal options.
45 Year Old Man Dangerously Drunk Off Hand Sanitizer
According to a letter published in the Sydney Journal of Medicine, an 45-year-old Australian man in treatment for alcoholism was found to be dangerously drunk after ingesting six 375 milliliter bottles of hand sanitizer from his hospital bathroom. (That’s as much liquid as three wine bottles!) His blood alcohol level was 0.271 percent, half way to the often-lethal 0.5 percent. The primary ingredient in most hand sanitizers is isopropyl alcohol, which is not generally considered safe for human consumption. It can still get you drunk—but not without making you sick. And the non-alcoholic additives of hand sanitizers (like fragrances) can be even more dangerous.
Doctors called this case the worst any of them had seen, but it’s hardly the first time someone has tried to get drunk off hand sanitizer. Doctors have been reporting alarming incidents for years, often in hospitals. And YouTube is full of videos of teens daring each other to take shots of Germ-X. These cases have led physicians to call for safer hand sanitizer dispenser designs—especially the installation of non-removable canisters in public restrooms, which would make it harder for alcohol-starved to gulp it straight from the bottle.
__________________________________________________________________________________
I don’t understand why there even needs to be hand sanitizer in inpatient treatment centers. There is soap and water that would work just fine, in my opinion. Instead of spending money to re-structure the dispensers, they should just not have hand sanitizer as an option.

Being a Failure

- Image via Wikipedia
So I was doing well on the Master Cleanse, up until last night. I came home to a friend of mine, Kevin, who was cooking some AMAZING food. It smelled delicious, looked delicious, and I wanted more than anything to take a bite. So I did. First I started off with trying a carrot to see how my stomach reacted, but then I just dove right in. There was a salad with mozzarella balls soaked in flavors, baby tomatoes and shrimp. Next there was a delicious sausage with pineapple, mushrooms and onions. And I don’t even know how to describe the cheesy potatoes, but they were delectable. He also had a cheesecake as dessert with ice cream and fruit that had been soaked in raspberry Vodka for days. Ultimately, I could not resist. I portioned myself and only took 2 sips of wine the entire evening.
Today I’ve decided to not go right into eating regularly, so I’m having Orange Juice diluted with water. Later tonight I play to make a soup with cabbage, squash, onions, carrots, zucchini, etc. Mmmm.
I’m glad it’s Friday and I can finally put some substance in my body. Sure, i didn’t make it the full length of time that I attempted, but I did make it a good 3 days. Although, not great, I still feel like I did a good job and I don’t plan on move hastily back into my normal eating patterns. Labor Day weekend, aka 3 day weekend and I am so excited
