New Study Proves Lesbians To Be Better Parents

feministing

I initially wanted to post this to gloat about the fact that lesbians are better parents than, well, everyone! And to be honest, that’s still the reason I decided to post this. For all of you Conservative folks who believe that homosexuals are the people corrupting society, I’d like for you to crawl off your fucking high horse and explain this:

The U.S. National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study (NLLFS) just released its resultson its 24-year long study on families with lesbian parents, finding that not one of the 78 adolescents in the study had reported being sexually or physically abused by their parents. This compares to 26% of American adolescents overall who report parent or caregiver physical abuse. 8.3% report sexual abuse.

What?! The lesbians aren’t beating, molesting or raping their children?! Then they must be turning them all gay, right? I mean, there has to be some sort of explanation about why lesbians can’t be loving parents who raise normal children in a normal environment (minus a penis as head of household).

Additionally, only 2.8% of the adolescents in the study identified themselves as gay. Apparently the majority of them didn’t catch their parents’ gayness.

Oh shit…. a lot of them turn out straight too?! Okay, so far, it seems as though the most well-rounded children who have not been abused come from lesbian households. This must mean that whatever the lesbians in this country are doing for their children is working and providing them with a wonderful home to grow and develop within. Sadly, this is so far from what many children in this country have, yet their parents are more respect in the eyes of government. How pathetic.

If half the kids in this country had parents with such results, we may have a more prosperous and less emotionally disturbed society. Unfortunately, there are far too many people who would still fight for gays and lesbians to not be allowed to raise children because it is ‘immoral’ and ‘sacrilegious’, despite the findings of this study. People who choose to ignore the facts and fight for morality (which I feel is a matter of opinion) are the people who have been trusted to lead this country, yet don’t represent a huge group of people who bring greatness to this country. For that, I am embarrassed and unenthusiastic.

Thursday 4Play: Republicans

funny_anti_republican_card-p137320759871869789z85p0_400

Seeing as we’ve been seeing a lot of the Republican nominees lately, I figured it’s as good a time as ever to poke fun at the Republican Party. I’ve gathered some pretty funny photos, that just so happen to reflect my opinion on the matter quite truthfully. And for those of you who are Republican and find this insulting, I promise to poke fun at myself and other Democrats on one of the upcoming Thursday 4Play’s.

File-Sharing Is Recognized As An Official Religion In Sweden…Seriously.

kopimichurch

I have a feeling this was a pretty ingenious way of encouraging the government to stay out of their business based on religious grounds. File-sharing, is in fact, illegal in many countries. The people who created the files (whether they be music, movies, programs, etc.) are not making a profit based on the person who is sharing the file is not collecting anything in return. Therefore, the person who is having the file shared with them has to pay nothing for something that generally costs money.

Since 2010 a group of self-confessed pirates have tried to get their beliefs recognized as an official religion in Sweden. After their request was denied several times, the Church of Kopimism – which holds CTRL+C and CTRL+V as sacred symbols – is now approved by the authorities as an official religion. The Church hopes that its official status will remove the legal stigma that surrounds file-sharing.

Isak Gerson is a file-sharer  and does so religiously which led to him finding The Missionary Church of Kopimism in 2010. After becoming established, they submitted a request to be officially accepted by the authorities. They were rejected twice and asked to explain their form of prayer or meditation before the council finally accepted their request.

“I think that more people will have the courage to step out as Kopimists. Maybe not in the public, but at least to their close ones,” Isak tells TorrentFreak. “There’s still a legal stigma around copying for many. A lot of people still worry about going to jail when copying and remixing. I hope in the name of Kopimi that this will change.”

They’ve grown their members from 1,000 to 3,000 and hope that number increases with time. If you’re interested, join the movement, free of charge (unlike some other greedy religions).

[VIDEO] Drinking Vodka Is Bad… But What About Vaporizing?

images

I’m really hoping that no high school students read this article and watch this video, because it could very well lead to massive deaths. In high school, drinking was the normal thing to do, and drinking the most was the “cool” thing to do. If I would have been able to make an alcohol vaporizer where you no longer had to taste the liquor, I would be, by far, the coolest girl in school. And honestly, that wouldn’t last long because I’d probably die from alcohol poisoning, seeing as I no longer had anything to hold me back from drinking (I’m sorry, vaporizing). Now that I’m a mature adult (HA!), I could see this being a nice fun way to take a shot, and then switching back to the much more realistic way of taking shots, and getting drunk like a normal person. Being cool is no longer a priority of mine, obviously.

How to make your very own alcohol vapouriser. Booze fun with physics. Got the idea from James May’s Man Lab on BBC Television where Oz Clarke did it with whiskey so thought I’d try it out.

Canada Catering To Crack Heads?

article-2081236-0069816A1000044C-758_468x313

Reading this article, I thought there was no way in hell it could be true. Sadly, Canada has done something I never imagined…gave handouts to crack heads to help minimize the spread of disease.

Drug addicts in a crime-ridden Canadian neighbourhood are being given free crack pipes, it has emerged.

The handouts are part of a ’harm reduction strategy’ aimed at curbing the spread of disease in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Among the items distributed are heat-resistant and shatterproof glass pipes, which experts say should reduce injury to the users’ lips and mouth.

HIVHepatitis B and C are among the diseases that are easily spread from drug addicts who are injured by their pieces and then pass them around to fellow users. For now, they have put down $60,000 in a trial project to help bring this community out of the gutter. Along with drug paraphernalia, they also passed out mouthpieces, filters, alcohol swabs, screens and push sticks.

In total, 60,000 kits are expected to be distributed at five locations during an eight-month trial period.

‘What this boils down to is it’s about disease prevention,’ Ms Beutel told the National Post.

They are also able to get some insight into how many crack heads they have roaming their streets, as well as percentages of who is participating in this drug use. Crack has gained popularity in Canada, and seeing as they now get free pipes too, I can imagine crack heads from all over flocking to this area.

[VIDEOS] Amazing Story Of A Teen Who Coincidentally Left His Own Memorial On YouTube

ben-breedlove-memorial-heart-death

This is a truly heartbreaking story and definitely worth watching.

Ben Breedlove, 18, recorded two courageously touching videos explaining his heart condition and the few near death experiences that had happened. Coincidentally, these videos were posted by the high-school student one week before he passed away, which happened to be Christmas Day.

Breedlove lived in Austin, texas and suffered from  hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a disease that makes the blood muscle abnormally thick which in turn makes it rather difficult to pump blood. As he got older, he understood the severity of his disease and was aware that these near death experiences would most likely stop occurring, because unfortunately, he would succumb to his disorder. Bravely, he got in front of the camera and shared his story in two compelling videos:

Kieran Miles inspired me to do this, Just thought I should share my story to the rest of the world, watch part 1 first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmlTHfVaU9o

The young man you see in these videos is inspiring and shares how being different to any degree is difficult for kids to understand and cope with. Regardless of sexual orientation, physical disorders, mental disorders, emotional disorders, race, etc. Breedlove operated two YouTube channels: YouTube channels: Our Advice4You and BreedloveTV and had gained quite a following, around 80,000 subscribers.

Kid Cudi has seen these videos, and wrote a message on his Tumblr in regards to Breedlove’s passing:

“I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart,” wrote Cudi in a message that received 1,692 notes. “We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s [definitely] mine. You have my love.”

Although I am not religious, I am happy that this young man felt at peace and is happy to know that Angels and God are on his side. For him, this made him feel good about his passing and probably left his parents with the knowledge that he would be okay. They raised a good kid with a serious issue until the age of eighteen. He seemed appreciate and kind-hearted. While he may be gone now, they can forever remember how far he had come and that he was happy with who he was. This is amazing.

[VIDEO] Riley, 5, Discusses Marketing For Boys And Girls

screen-shot-2011-12-25-at-11.11

Riley, 5, is a pretty smart little girl and has trouble understanding why it is that princesses are pink and marketed towards girls, while G.I. Joe‘s and things of that sort are packaged in greens and blues and marketed towards boys. The stereotypes that are in place today, which offer guidance for what girls and boys should be interested in, often make me wonder if we’ll ever be able to stray away from the 50′s idea of what men and women should do and how they should act. Fortunately, we have young children, like Riley, who make it seem so apparent that this is wrong and not the way we should be encouraging our children. Just because the princess is in a pink package does not mean that a little boy can’t play with it, yet, he’s far too aware that the consequences of wanting and/or getting such a gift wouldn’t be all that great.

Way to go Riley! If only some adults could not be so ignorant and take advice from you, we might be better off.

And although she isn’t aware of what a provocative statement she made for the gay community, I’d like to send thanks to her for that as well. At this time, when a young boy’s parent is questioned because she paints his nails pink, we really need people to stand up and express that color doesn’t identify someone. We should already be well aware of this, thanks to the Civil Rights Movement, but sadly, we are not.

Gay children find it harder to come out because of these exact scenarios. If they want to buy a princess, the bullying begins and they learn from the get go, that in order to not be made fun of they can’t play with the toys they like, act the way they wish, or someday find love in a companion they choose. This is what is truly heartbreaking and this reason that little Riley is such an amazing girl.

Ricky Gervais Is Witty And Intelligent.

article-2077757-0F435EC100000578-380_468x744

Many Christian Twitter followers are highly offended by Ricky Gervais and have made their outrage apparent with tweets to and about the comedic atheist.

The Office creator, 50, has often spoken of his lack of faith, but his appearance on the cover of New Humanist magazine in a Jesus Christ-style pose has pushed a few over the edge:

In the magazine there is also an article that features an interview that was done with Mr. Gervais. Here he discusses a new movie he’s working on called ‘Afterlife’ where he will be playing the role of ‘God‘.

Ricky reveals he plays the religious leader as ‘an arrogant, wisecracking son of a b****, who thinks he’s the best thing since sliced bread’ in the new show.

And he says despite the touchy subject the programme isn’t meant to be taken seriously.

‘He (God in the show) also loves welcoming atheists to heaven with a smug grin on his face. He likes atheists deep down though. Or rather he likes good atheists,’ Ricky muses.

‘He admires the fact that they were moral people even though they didn’t believe they would ever be rewarded with everlasting life. It’s not anti-religion, it’s just fun.’

He adds: ‘I used to believe in God. The Christian one, that is. (There are a few thousand to choose from. But I was born in a country where the dominant religion was Christianity so I believed in that one. Isn’t it weird how that always happens?)

‘Luckily I was also interested in science and nature. And reason and logic. And honesty and truth. And equality and fairness.

This man is a role model in my eyes and I love that he is not backing down just because he’s pissed a few people off. Instead, he’s stood up for what he believes, which is disbelief. He’s not a cruel man and makes it that much more clear that atheists are just like Christians, with one small difference: God. Whether we believe in something does not determine our actions or our sense of morality. A good person is good regardless of their beliefs, and the same goes for bad people.

The sarcasm he enlists to make his points about religion are very compelling. His compassion for humanity is apparent. His talent (who some would say was a gift from God) is overwhelming. Don’t deny him applause for the greatness he is and has done, simply because he thinks differently than you. And if you do choose to be so small-minded, you might want to ask God to forgive you for placing judgment on others.
