The Salt Lake Tribune -

A Logan motorcyclist rescued when several good samaritans lifted a burning car off of him remained in critical condition Tuesday but thanked his rescuers.

“I’m just very thankful for everyone that helped me out,” Brandon Wright told The Associated Press by telephone from his hospital bed. “They saved my life.”

Brandon Wright, 21, had been flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray shortly after his eastbound motorcycle collided with a BMW sedan about 11:40 a.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 89 in Logan. Tyler Riggs, who identified himself as a cousin of Wright’s, said Tuesday that Wright had undergone surgery Monday night and was expected to recover, though it would be a long recuperation.

Assistant Logan Police Chief Jeff Curtis said the accident occurred when the BMW, exiting a parking lot across the street from the Utah State University campus, drove in front of Wright’s bike. Wright and his bike then slid into and under the car.

The bike caught fire when its gas line ruptured, and the flames spread to the BMW. Passersby saw Wright wedged underneath the car. Several of them, despite the flames, rushed to lift the car off of Wright while others pulled him out by his feet.

“Every one of those people put their lives in danger,” Curtis said to The Associated Press. “Those people are heroes. You can only speculate what the outcome would have been if they had lifted that car and waited for the emergency service personnel to get up there.”

‘Guerrilla ad campaign hits new low after terrified woman thought she was being hunted by a stalker… who turned out to be Toyota’

As much as people suing for no good reason pisses me off, this is understandable. Toyota is a huge corporation that should know this stupid stunt could end badly. When you have that much money and a legal team, the idea of moving forward seems rather idiotic. Hope this lady gets her $10 million (rather extreme for 5 days of ‘fright’), but at the very least she should most definitely be given a Toyota.

Dailymail -

They targeted her in a creepy, stalker-themed online advertising stunt – but now the joke is on them.

Toyota and Saatchi & Saatchi are being sued for $10 million after marketeers launched a prank campaign of terror against an unsuspecting woman.

Amanda Duick, from California, first filed papers against the car-maker and ad agency two years ago over the intrusive ‘Your Other You’ campaign.

Now a court in the U.S has ruled the defendants’ claim that she unknowingly agreed to the whole thing was invalid.

Miss Duick’s nightmare started when she began receiving frightening e-mails day after day from a strange man.

The man had her home address and appeared to be a 25-year-old beer-guzzling English football hooligan.

He told her he was on the run from the law and needed to hide out at her place with his pit bull Trigger.

But ‘Sebastian Bowler’ was in fact a fictional character made up by advertising staff.

He even had a MySpace page which advertising staff purporting to be him sent to the terrified Miss Duick.

Bowler told the prank victim he was on a cross-country road trip and would be at her house in a few days.

After Bowler wrote that he’d run into some trouble at a motel, Duick received an e-mail from someone purporting to be manager of the motel.

It included a bill and said Miss Duick was responsible for a TV Bowler had smashed.

Duick then ‘freaked out’ over the e-mails before she received a message directing her to a video explaining she’d been pranked.

The video revealed Bowler was a fictional character, and the whole thing had been part of an ad campaign for Toyota’s Matrix car.

Unknown to Duick, someone had signed her up for the campaign at YourOtherYou.com, a web site set up for the prank.

The campaign was aimed at 20-something males because Toyota’s advertising firm, Saatchi & Saatchi LA, believed men of that age like to prank their friends.

Anyone signing up could choose one of five fictional characters – among them a heavy metal fanatic and a football hooligan.

The character would then barrage the designated friend with text messages, phone calls, e-mails and videos for five days.

The aim was to freak out the friend by making him or her think the stranger possessed personal information about the target – phone number, home address – and was on his way to visit.

Saatchi & Saatchi made sure the deception was complete by going so far as to create online personas for the fictional characters, including a band web page for the heavy metal fanatic.

The agency even recorded an album for the fictional character’s fictional band.

Saatchi creative director Alex Flint said about the campaign in 2008: ‘Even when you get several stages in, it’s still looking pretty real.

‘I think even the most cynical, anti-advertising guy will appreciate the depth and length to which we’ve gone.’

Miss Duick however sued Toyota and Saatchi & Saatchi and fifty individuals associated with the campaign for intentional infliction of emotional distress; unfair, unlawful, and deceptive trade practices; and negligent misrepresentation.

She is seeking $10 million in compensatory damages.

Toyota tried to dismiss the suit, insisting that an online terms-of-service agreement that Miss Duick had clicked on authorised the company to send her the e-mails and included a provision that any disputes over the campaign would have to be handled through arbitration.

But a California Appellate judge ruled that Toyota had enticed Miss Duick to click on the agreement under false pretenses, thus invalidating the arbitration provision.

According to the suit, after Duick’s friend signed her up to participate in the campaign without her knowledge, she received an e-mail with a link to a web site where she was invited to have a personality evaluation.

Duick clicked on the agreement, which made only vague references to an ‘interactive experience’ and a ‘digital experience,’ thinking she had signed up for a personality test.

She then began receiving the disturbing e-mails from ‘Bowler’.

The court ruled that the terms-of-service were void due to ‘fraud in the inception’ and the defendants ‘misrepresented and concealed (whether intentionally or not) the true nature of the conduct to which Duick was to be subjected’.

Baby Dies Of Malnourishment After Being Fed Soy Milk And Apple Juice From Vegan Parents

After reading more about this case, it has less to do with them being Vegan and a whole hell of a lot to do with them being bad parents. If the baby was being fed sufficiently, then he wouldn’t have died weighing only 3 pounds. Although apple juice and soy milk is not a normal baby food, you would still think that if their son was wasting away, they would take him to the doctor and figure out the issue.

The Full story from Dailymail -

A Vegan couple who only fed their newborn son soy milk and apple juice have lost out in their bid to have their murder convictions overturned.

Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31, had appealed against their conviction four years ago over the death of their six-week-old son who starved to death.

The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the murder conviction of the couple who claimed they were sticking to their beliefs over food.

The two first-time parents had rushed their malnourished son Crown Shakur to hospital after he began to have trouble breathing in 2005.

Doctors declared him dead on arrival after failing to resuscitate him.

An autopsy found his death was due to extreme malnourishment or starvation.

When police searched the couple’s flat in Fulton County, Georgia, they found a soy milk bottle, an apple juice bottle and a rancid-smelling baby bottle caked with debris.

Prosecutors said an investigation revealed the two, who lived a vegan lifestyle and ate no animal products, only fed their baby soy milk and apple juice, and had failed to seek medical treatment when their young son was wasting away.

Prosecutor Chuck Boring said during the trial no matter how many times they want to say, ‘”We’re vegans, we’re vegetarians,” that’s not the issue in this case. The child died because he was not fed. Period.’

Defence lawyers argued at the murder trial that they did not realise their baby was in danger.

At trial, Saunders claimed she also fed her son breast milk and soy milk formula, reports the Atlantic Journal-Constitution.

‘I loved my son – and I did not starve him,’ Jade Sanders said at her May 2007 sentencing hearing.

According to authorities, the child died of bronchopneumonia due to extreme malnourishment or starvation.

The couple were found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

In her appeal, Sanders’ lawyer argued the evidence wasn’t strong enough to support the verdict.

And Thomas’ lawyer claimed his trial attorney was ineffective because he failed to call an expert to support his theory that his son’s death was linked to cystic fibrosis and not starvation.

The Supreme Court rejected the appeal unanimously and said the conviction was safe.

Cindy and George Anthony Do Not Agree On Whether Casey Is Responsible For Caylee’s Death Or Not

Dr. Phil McGraw was able to interview both George and Cindy Anthony in regards to their granddaughter Caylee and her mysterious death. It seems now, more than ever, that the two disagree on whether their own daughter, Casey Anthony, is responsible for her death.

Speaking on The View today, ahead of his highly anticipated interview with the couple, Dr Phil said he believes Cindy Anthony is still very much in denial about what happened to their granddaughter and said she disagreed with her husband about whether their daughter did, in fact, kill two-year-old Caylee.

According to Dr. Phil. he was able to ask any questions that he felt comfortable asking. One thing I really enjoyed is when he asked Cindy Anthony about her posts on Myspace where she had acknowledged that Caylee had been missing for an amount of time before the police were even notified. For me, this post was the most revealing:

‘My Caylee is missing, she came into my life unexpectedly just as she had left me. Jealousy has taken her away, jealousy from the one person that should be thankful for all the love and support given to her.’

While hearing this, and reading this, it seems to me that the ‘jealousy’ Cindy is referring to is her daughter’s. Cindy seems to be understanding of who took her away since she has such strong opinions about the person who harbored the jealousy and was capable of ‘(taking) her away’. Of course Cindy explains this away by saying that she was missing in her heart, but physically she believed she knew where she was. Her belief was that Casey was deliberately keeping Caylee from her grandparents. Dr. Phil goes deeper and asks another great (and revealing) question:

He said: ‘What jumps out at me is that you said this mother gave chance after chance for her daughter to change but instead more lies, more betrayal. Did you know something then?’

Stupid Woman Pissed Off That Six Flags Staff Lost Her Dog After Rescuing It From HER Boiling Car

I am so disgusted with people these days. Yes, your dog has run away, but thankfully it’s still alive, which may not have been the case if they didn’t rescue it in the first place, dip shit. This incident is no one’s fault, but your own, so stop being so upset with everyone else. In my opinion, she’s probably looking for a way to make some easy cash based on her actions of leaving her small Pomeranian dog in a boiling car, while she enjoyed festivities at a theme park.

Dailymail -

A woman has been left ‘distraught’ after her medically prescribed support dog escaped after being ‘rescued’ from her boiling car by Six Flags park staff.

Pomeranian ‘Malibu’ escaped from California park staff as they tried to replenish her water bowl, running out of an open door at the in house kennel used to house dogs left in hot cars.

Park staff had earlier smashed the window of owner Miss Shalanon Brooks’ car to free Malibu, after they saw the dog which they ‘thought was dead’ according to a Six Flags spokesman.

Shalanon Brooks had said that she thought the dog would be fine because she left a cup of water and the window’s cracked. Why the fuck do you bring a dog to a theme park in 100 degree weather, just to leave it in the car? I understand it’s a support dog, but if Malibu wasn’t supporting you at the time, couldn’t you have left her in a much cooler environment? Water and cracked windows in a confined space and very hot temperatures is NOT safe. Common sense must not be a given for all people in society today.

The 20-Year-Old Babysitter That Slept With The 14-Year Old Boy Reveals She Was In Love

Loni Bouchard was arrested on July 12th, after the 14-year-old’s parents discovered the relationship. Police were able to seize her journals and this is where some revealing information is brought to light.

Although Bouchard knew her actions were wrong, she believes that she is in love with the boy and age shouldn’t matter. She also expresses how great the sex was between the two of them, which pretty much seals her fate. She, feels much differently and is excited to find ‘the guy who treats me right.’

Here are some excerpts from the sad 20-year-old who fell in love with a child:

‘I don’t care about the law. I just want to be with him and not have to hide it.’

‘How can the law tell us who to fall for, who to like and who to love and especially who to date? I thought America was a free country.’

The boy’s mother had discovered that they were intimate due to messages that they were sending each other through FaceBook. Once Bouchard was aware that his mother was unhappy and going to take action, she decided to text her and see if they might be able to ‘work this out.’
She also allegedly told them they ‘don’t need to call the police’ and ‘let’s act like adults.’
After the parents filed a restraining order against Bouchard, she had much to say about it in her journal:
‘His mom absolutely HATES me because of the situation and I understand why, but she’s being immature about it.’
Sadly, she is obviously very immature and probably has the same mindset as the 14-year-old boy and I could see how she was confused about loving this boy. Her mother, Kimmy Bouchard,  was also arrested for providing marijuana and alcohol to the boy. Obviously, Loni doesn’t have the best example as a mother.  And if you’re going to act 14, stop having sex! When you’re 14 years old those relationships will MOST LIKELY be insignificant in the future. Unfortunately for Loni Bouchard, it will be extremely significant and the reason she’s serving time.
