Child welfare report finds Casey Anthony WAS responsible for Caylee’s death… but she will NOT face new charges
Dailymail - Casey Anthony has escaped being punished for the death of her daughter, despite a child welfare report finding she failed to protect two-year-old Caylee.
The report by Florida’s child welfare agency published today found that Anthony, who was controversially found not guilty of murdering her daughter last month, had been responsible for her death.
But Anthony will not face additional charges as a result of the report, which found she was ‘neglectful’.
THE REPORT THAT FOUND ANTHONY ‘RESPONSIBLE’
The Florida Department of Children and Families verified three allegations classified as ‘maltreatments’ by Casey Anthony.
They included death, failure to protect and threatened harm.
The report did not verify asphyxiation and physical injury because the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office was unable to confirm Caylee’s cause of death.
Investigators said that Anthony’s actions were ‘neglectful’.
She failed to ‘report her child missing in a timely manner’ and left her in the care of ‘a baby-sitter for which she was unable to provide accurate information’.
‘It is the conclusion of the Department of Children and Families that [Casey Anthony] failed to protect her child from harm either through her actions or lack of actions, which tragically resulted in the child’s untimely death,’ a DCF spokesman said.
The Department of Children and Families noted that Anthony failed to protect Caylee by not reporting her disappearance in 2008 for more than a month and that failure interfered with the law enforcement investigation and efforts to find the child.
The agency also concluded that Caylee died as a result of abuse or neglect, but the report said the agency was unable to substantiate that the toddler had died from asphyxiation.
‘The inactions by the mother were clearly failure to protect. As the child was found dead, obviously the failure to protect led to the death,’ DCF spokesman Joe Follick said.
The investigation’s conclusions were submitted to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, but it was not a criminal investigation and will not result in any charges against Casey Anthony a
A jury last month acquitted Anthony in Caylee’s death. She was released from jail and has been kept out of the limelight.
A judge last week ordered her to return to Florida to serve probation on unrelated check fraud charges, but her lawyers appealed and another judge is expected to rule this week whether Anthony must follow that order.
The child welfare agency’s investigation was independent of the criminal investigation and the agency made no determination of who killed Caylee.
The department started its first investigation after it received allegations of ‘abuse at the hand of [Casey Anthony]‘ in August 2008.
A second investigation was started on December 29 2008 after Caylee’s remains were found in swamp land close to the house Anthony shared with her parents.
The report said that Anthony was cool and confident when DCF officials met her at the Orange County Jail on September 4 2008.
She told authorities they would not ‘break her’ or make her confess to a crime she did not commit.
The agency investigates every child death when there are allegations of abuse or neglect. The report is also on record in case families come back in the system.
The child protective investigator who interviewed Anthony and her mother, Cindy, after Caylee’s disappearance said Anthony blamed the sheriff’s office for spending ‘more time trying to find me guilty without any evidence than trying to find Caylee,’ according to the report.
When asked why she didn’t report Caylee missing sooner, Anthony told the child investigator she made ‘some bad decisions’, the report states.
In the opening statements of her murder trial, Anthony’s defence team said that Caylee drowned in the swimming pool of her parent’s home in June 2008.
A memorial for the girl, who would have just turned six years old, was held this week near to the spot where her remains were found and was attended by her grandparents George and Cindy Anthony.
Lindsay Lohan was spotted at Hal’s in Venice. It appears that a gentleman brings a bag of something to her and her friend, who inspects the bag. Shortly after the inspection, she is seen exchanging money with another guy for the bag. What do you think?
UPDATED August 12th, 2011: Link is provided below.
While many of us may have friends, or ourselves, that have pissed in odd places while on a drunken stupor, this is most definitely a unique story. Eighteen-year-old Robert Vietze had consumed 8 drinks while on a red eye flight from Portland, Oregon to Vermont. With so much alcohol in his system, it’s obvious that he would need to use the restroom.
Unfortunately, he misjudged where the restroom was on the plane and instead started pissing on an eleven-year-old girl who was on the flight with her sister and father. Luckily, for Vietze, the sister and father were in the CORRECT restrooms and not urinating on their daughter/sister.
I was drunk, and I did not realize I was pissing on her leg,” the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Vietze told law enforcement.
After flight attendants interfered, more chaos commenced on this JetBlue flight. Another passenger started complaining that they had chest pains an hour before the flight was set to land, and then vomited. The flight attendants tried to keep this passenger calm, as well as the father of the young girl who had been peed on, so that they could make it to the destination.
Once they arrived, two individuals helped the sick man, while four others took Vietze and turned him over to authorities. He has been issued a federal summons for indecent exposure. This is one of the many reasons to keep your drinking to slightly buzzed and not totally blitzed on a flight back home.
Ironically, this is not “the first time a passenger has peed on another under the influence of alcohol. Back in June, a drunk New Zealand man on a Jetstar flight from Auckland to Singapore peed on the plane’s carpet, a man’s leg and a woman’s scarf after drinking whiskey out of Burger King cups with friends. The man, Michael Aitkin, eventually came forward and apologized profusely to his fellow passengers for his actions.”

Unfortunately, people weren’t as thrilled with this grandpa going around town and tagging, and made reports to officers about the man’s description. On Sunday morning, someone had called the police about an elderly man tagging in front of a vacant lot, and the man matched descriptions of the “SLA” culprit.
To authorities surprise, the intitals stand for “Sane Liberation Army,” a group Wesley believes will overtake the U.S. economy once it completely collapses. They had previously thought that it was referring to Symbionese Liberation Army, a radical 1970s group that gained fame by kidnapping newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst, which may be what led them to not notice the elderly Wesley.
Even at his age, he was charged with felony criminal mischief, and without having the funds to afford a lawyer is being held on $5,000 bail. Let’s hope they realize that this man is old enough and doesn’t need to be spending his last few moments in jail, because quite frankly, who knows how many more he has.
Huffington Post – The Obama administration publicly announced Monday that it has denied immigration rights to Bradford Wells and Anthony John Makk — a gay couple in San Francisco that has been married for seven years — and ordered the deportation of Makk to his native Australia, according to SFGate. Makk applied for permanent residency as a spouse of a U.S. citizen when his visa expired, but he was denied, as his same-sex marriage is not federally recognized.
Makk is the primary caregiver to Wells, who suffers from AIDS. The couple has lived together for 19 years and legally married in Massachusetts in 2004.
Although President Obama announced just last month that he would fight to repeal the controversial Defense of Marriage Act that bans same-sex marriage, his administration cited that very act in the decision.
Until the act is repealed, the White House has vowed to enforce it on a case-by-case basis. In this case, Makk has lived in the United States for more than 20 years, owns a San Francisco business, has no criminal history, has never lived here illegally and is the primary caregiver to his husband.
The timing of the deportation is especially stressful for the ailing Wells, who suffers from advanced AIDS and was rushed to the emergency room in June with symptoms of a heart attack, according to SFWeekly. Wells could join Makk in Australia, but he would be forced to give up his medical insurance.
I’m married just like any other married person in this country. At this point, the government can come in and take my husband and deport him. It’s infuriating. It’s upsetting. I have no power, no right to keep my husband in this country. I love this country, I live here, I pay taxes and I have no right to share my home with the person I married. Anyone can identify with the horror of having the government come in and destroy your family when you’ve done nothing wrong, and you’ve done everything right, followed every law.
Makk will be forced to leave the country by August 25.
UPDATE: On Tuesday afternoon, Anthony John Makk and Bradford Wells announced that they will be appealing their Defense of Marriage Act visa denial, as reported by SF Weekly. SF Weekly also reported that Nancy Pelosi has reached out to urge the Obama administration to reconsider the decision. Her office released the following statement: “Leader Pelosi has formally contacted USCIS on behalf of her constituents and will be working to exhaust all appropriate immigration remedies that are currently open to pursue.”
Dailymail - A British pensioner has drowned in her swimming pool in Cyprus after apparently falling in while sleepwalking.
Fiona Merritt, 68, was discovered in the pool by her husband John at their home in Paphos ten days ago.
The mother-of-four, described as ‘full of life’ and ‘happy go lucky’, had moved to Cyprus two years ago from Taunton, Somerset, along with her husband, 65.
Police said they were treating her death as drowning, but were trying to find out how she fell into the water at around 1.30am on August 2.
Daughter Tracy Seward said: ‘It is completely out of character for her to go outside that early – she might have been sleepwalking.
‘She was a strong swimmer and we believe she may have slipped in the pool.
‘I wish we had more answers as not knowing is the worst part.
‘Mum and dad were really excited about their move to Cyprus two years ago and they were really enjoying their time there.’
She added that her mother was devastated after finding out her brother Michael Mitchell, who she had not seen for 20 years, died from a heart attack in Tennessee, U.S. in April, but dismissed fears she may have committed suicide.
Mrs Merritt’s funeral was held in Larnaca earlier this week

AOL - VIENNA (Associated Press) — A famed Austrian museum has fired an employee for washing his hands and face with his urine.
Alfred Zoppelt says he was fired after 23 years of working as an attendant at the Belvedere, a castle in Vienna with a major art collection. He says his adherence to urine therapy was previously “never a problem.”
Zoppelt, 57, said Thursday his notice from Belvedere says he was fired because “you regularly rub urine into your skin, particularly the face and hands. With this, you soil your place of work … and threaten the health of your co-workers.”
A woman answering the Belvedere press department phone confirmed that Zoppelt was fired but refused to give her name or further information.
Believers in urine therapy claim medical and cosmetic benefits but these have not been proven.
Dailymail - Shackled and in wheelchairs, the infamous Dougherty siblings were led by authorities to a waiting police vehicle hours after they were finally captured in a high-speed police chase and shoot-out on a Colorado highway.
Bank-robbing stripper Lee Grace Dougherty was shot in the leg during the dramatic final shoot-out while her two brothers Dylan and Ryan were injured in the 20-mile, 100mph crash.
The injured trio was then taken to Spanish Peak’s Medical Center to be treated before being transferred in the hospital outfits to prison.
During the earlier chase, Lee-Grace, 29, got out of the gang’s high-powered Subaru Impreza and started shooting at police with a handgun. Officers returned fire, hitting her in the leg.
Her brothers Ryan, 21, and Dylan, 26, fled in a different directions and were arrested a short time later. One brother was apprehended with the help of construction workers who tackled and subdued him.
All three were arrested after the pursuit and gunfight south of the town of Pueblo.
Police recovered two AK-47 assault rifles and a MAC-11 pistol at the crash site. At least one of the AK-47s were used in the rolling gun battle with police.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said about the gang’s capture: ‘I’m proud to say we won. We continuously said that if these three fugitives wanted a battle with law enforcement, we would win that battle. And that’s what happened today.’
This article struck me as odd, and after reading it, my opinion hasn’t changed. Here is some of the article as posted on Dailymail -
The five teenage girls might look like they’re in a normal class, eagerly reading their textbooks and answering their teacher’s questions diligently.
But the textbooks are Bibles and the girls all have crosses instead of protractors, as they train to become exorcists – real exorcists who fight demons, curses and evil spells.
‘People do look a bit surprised when I arrive,’ admits graduate exorcist Brynne Larson. ‘When people call for an exorcist, they don’t picture a 16-year-old high school girl.’
Bible and cross: Savannah Shurkenback, 19, right, and Brynne Larson, 16, are two teenage exorcists who fight demons, curses and evil spells
But Brynne, from Phoenix, Arizona, is one of a new breed of qualified teenage demon slayers, who answered a call when the Church made the admission of there being a worldwide exorcist shortage.
But despite drastic efforts, supply has still not met demand for the controversial ceremony.
The Vatican’s chief exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, has revealed that he alone has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession.
So if the forces of darkness start getting the upper hand, who should you call? Evangelist Reverend Bob Larson of Spiritual Freedom Churches International – and his remarkable school for exorcists.
‘Think of it more of an exorcist franchise,’ Rev Larson tells MailOnline exclusively.
‘The Church just can’t keep up with demand. But I have 100 teams of trained exorcists working all over the world, and outbreaks of demonic possession are getting out of control.
‘Our phone lines are ringing constantly – we receive up to 1,000 individual requests monthly, and we travel to countries like Africa, Ukraine, England and even Australia.’
But while his teams include exorcists aged up to 70, one group of his protégées are causing waves in the religious community. They are teenage girls.
Savannah Scherkenback, 19, and her sister Tess, 16, are Rev Larson’s latest graduates from his school for exorcists.
‘We have found that our female, teenage exorcists are particularly effective at curing the possessed,’ says Rev Larson, whose daughter Brynne is a supernaturally talented exorcist.
In Case you think you’re possessed, here are the 5 signs:
‘FIVE SIGNS OF POSSESSION’
- Feeling suicidal/ self harming
‘Many of the demons we encounter encourage people to hurt themselves,’ says Rev Larson. ‘They can drive you to suicide if they’re not dealt with.
- Becoming sensitive to religious material
‘The possessed will vomit if they go to a church. They will scream if they come into contact with holy water,’ says Rev Larson. The possessed will reportedly not be able to look at statues of Christ.
- Harbouring feelings of murder
Have you suddenly started to feel intense hatred towards colleagues or even family members? It may be a demon inside of you, says Rev Larson. ‘One of the most common demons is called “murder”.’
- Sickness/ Tiredness
Having a demon within you is a tiring game. Sleeplessness, anxiety and headaches are common complaints, along with less subtle symptoms like levitation and a 360-degree spinning head.
- Speaking in a foreign tongue
The possessed have been known to suddenly start speaking in Latin, Spanish, or even Italian, explains Rev Larson. Watch out for a deepening voice too, he says. ‘I’ve heard that voice all too often. It’s deep and growling.’
LETTERS & EMAILS FROM CLIENTS
Below is a selection of genuine calls for help sent to Reverend Bob Larson:
- ‘My life is a living hell. I practice the occult every night with Lucifer. I signed a pact in my blood and buried it with real human bones. My fingers make the shape of claws. I wake up at night growling. I throw up if I go to church. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!’ (‘Lori’)
- ‘I grew up in Satanism. I have a multitude of physical and sexual abuse. I want to die. Can you help me?’ (Name withheld)
- ‘I have suicidal thoughts and dreams of hurting others. I am fighting something deep within me. Your show forced me to look at the possibility of having a demon inside me.’ (‘Adam’)
- ‘I have tried to kill myself and have homicidal thoughts. I even made a list of people I want to kill. I really need some answers.’ (‘Laura’)
Los Angeles Times - In a potential breakthrough in cancer research, scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have genetically engineered patients’ T cells — a type of white blood cell — to attack cancer cells in advanced cases of a common type of leukemia.
Two of the three patients who received doses of the designer T cells in a clinical trial have remained cancer-free for more than a year, the researchers said.
Experts not connected with the trial said the feat was important because it suggested that T cells could be tweaked to kill a range of cancers, including ones of the blood, breast and colon.
“This is a huge accomplishment — huge,” said Dr. Lee M. Nadler, dean for clinical and translational research at Harvard Medical School, who discovered the molecule on cancer cells that the Pennsylvania team’s engineered T cells target.
Findings of the trial were reported Wednesday in two journals.
To build the cancer-attacking cells, the researchers modified a virus to carry instructions for making a molecule that binds with leukemia cells and directs T cells to kill them. Then they drew blood from three patients who suffered from chronic lymphocytic leukemia and infected their T cells with the virus.
When they infused the blood back into the patients, the engineered T cells successfully eradicated cancer cells, multiplied to more than 1,000 times in number and survived for months. They even produced dormant “memory” T cells that might spring back to life if the cancer was to return.
On average, the team calculated, each engineered T cell eradicated at least 1,000 cancer cells.
