Gun Violence in the United States
Seeing as I’m not someone who usually goes to the shooting range and grew up in suburbia, I have never seen again, let alone used one. Although, I was never really against them either and have always had an interest in at least giving it a try. Unfortunately though, I recently came across some statistics from the Brady Campaign that left me completely shocked. My interest hasn’t diminished though, and I still plan on giving it a try one day. I did, however, feel that people should know the facts about gun violence, so here you are:

51st state: ‘South California’ secession proposal unanimously approved for discussion at summit – latimes.com
I’m glad that they are aware that this proposal will go nowhere, but it still seems silly to waste time on something so far out of reach. I’m only saying this because I think it’s ridiculous, but because it is a waste of time, energy and money.
According to the Los Angeles Times:
South California, the proposed 51st state to the union, a long-shot concept that would see 13 California counties secede from the Golden State, was unanimously approved by the Riverside County Board of Directors Tuesday for more discussion and debate.
I’m looking forward to see how long that drag this issue out and glad that my county has been left out due to uninterested parties, on both sides I assume.
Gov. Jerry Brown Signed Bill to Teach Gay History in Schools!
I read an article in the Huffington Post, which shared that “Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Thursday making California the first state in the nation to add lessons about gays and lesbians to social studies classes in public schools.”
This is another huge step in the right direction for the gay community. Gov. Jerry Brown was heard saying that “History should be honest.” Truth is what the children should learn, so they can make their own independent issues on such matters. There are already far too many details that we learn in the public school system which are not honest; No need to further inhibit their education.
Obviously, this Bill is taking some heat though from the Conservatives side. Many believe that it “would indoctrinate children to accept homosexuality.” Why don’t we switch the world homosexuality into “colored skin” and see how that sounds? It is a cruel injustice and just because you do not like it, does not give you the right to keep facts from the ears of our youth. Keep your personal opinions on the matter of my sexuality where they need to stay, with you. Although you can’t see that I have always been different because my skin color isn’t pink or orange, doesn’t mean that I was not born this way.
I think the author of this Bill, State Sen. Mark Leno said it best:
“Today we are making history in California by ensuring that our textbooks and instructional materials no longer exclude the contributions of LGBT Americans.”

San Francisco residents of Bernal Heights have a new form of currency, and it’s keeping local businesses running. Although when I first started reading this article, I was a little skeptical, it actually seems like a great idea. I wish more cities would do this to encourage local spending. way to go Bernal Heights!

Same Sex Couples To Marry On Broadway?!
Being on Broadway is sometimes just a dream for people, especially those who have no natural talent. Well now, none of that matters. These couples will be able to be on stage at the St. James to wed and make history. It’s exciting that New York’s Broadway community is not only embracing, but celebrating this momentous occasion. Congratulations to all the lucky couples that will be a part of this!
Instinct Magazine: Broadway is prepped to welcome New York’s marriage equality law with plans to celebrate some of the state’s first same-sex marriages the best way the Great White Way can: on stage! So what is the Broadway community planning to commemorate this historic occasion?
After Hair wraps up its nightly performance on July 25th, a few lucky couples from the Broadway community will become some of the first same-sex pairs to legally tie the knot in the Empire State right there on the stage of the St. James Theater! (Just think of all the young gay boys who dream of Broadway weddings!)
Book of Mormon star Rory O’Malley made the announcement in front of the theater, currently playing host to Hair, late Wednesday. ”It’s not just a summer of love,” he said at the press conference, “it’s a summer of equality.”
Jordan Roth, president of the company that owns the St. James, said, ”The theater is the place where we come together to celebrate and affirm who we are as a people. It is the place where we stand in front of our community on a stage and we speak our truths. That’s what theater is and that’s what a wedding is.”

Michele Bachmann has been making the rounds in the media these days, and for good reason. I recently read something that she said in response to a question about how she felt about Fred Phelps (leader of The Westboro Baptist Church). I was shocked and outraged by her response:
“I almost think that the gay community has hired this guy, or created this guy, to do what he does. He is their best friend.”
This is utterly ridiculous! Does she also believe that they’re helping the families who go to funerals of their fallen soldiers and have to face this churches condemnation?! Anyone that can justify any of this “clergy’s” actions, should not be considered to represent “the people” of America. This not only insults me, but makes me ashamed; Not for who I am, but for trying to be fair in my judgment of her.
She refers to people that call themselves homosexuals as having a “very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders.”
I think she may be holding on to this definition of homosexuality because her poor husband would have no other excuse for his closeted gayness. Maybe I’m wrong though and his gay exorcism program really is working out well. Although, I don’t think I am. It seems more fitting that he’s gay, she’s a bitch, and the homosexuals are tired of being gay bashed by an ignorant politician.
