Why is alcohol legal?

I came across this while surfing around the net. It is a very creative and unique attempt at putting himself out there. Who, you might ask?

   nice. I wish him the best of luck, but don’t think he;ll get far until medicinal pot gets off the ground.

   There’s many reasons why alcohol isn’t illegal…but I won’t give my (long and windblown) answer on it in case that was meant to be a rhetorical question.
